Bank volume and loose volume
Bank volume is soil in its undisturbed state. Excavated soil expands, so hauled loose volume is larger. This calculator applies a soil-dependent swell factor and assumes 12 cubic yards per truck load.
Bank cubic yards = length × width × depth ÷ 27
FAQ
Should dimensions include working room?
Yes. Excavation normally extends beyond the finished foundation footprint so crews can form, waterproof, and drain the walls.
